Michiel de Koning

Past
I came in at the Academy of Pop Culture as  a keyboard player but I have expanded my skills in recent years. In my third year I made a road trip documentary with Dutch songs. I have done bookings and management for my former hip-hop band Spotrockers. With this band I played at amongst others de Melkweg, het Paard van Troje and various summer festivals. In my fourth year I made applied music / soundscapes for a documentary for which I have combined homely noises with piano music. I have always tried to find a challenge in things I had never done before.

Present
The past year I worked on my graduation project “Alles als ik wil”. For this I wrote the songs in Dutch with my past year as an underlying theme. My goal was  to tell my stories as honestly as possible. I also developed different live concepts for this. Together with friend and fellow student Marc Hoenderboom I developed “Soup without Balls”  a musical dinner show with semi-acoustic Dutch songs. I have expanded this idea for my final show, a musical three course dinner in which I tell stories, sing songs and enjoy the delicious food with my audience.

Future
Currently I am working on several projects that I want to professionalize in the near future so I can fully live off making music. I play keyboard in kid’s pop band “The Poppies”. As a result of my graduation show I have developed close contact with restaurant Spinoza where I’ll be organizing musical dinners from September on. Furthermore I have too many dreams and plans to name. I think with pleasure of a Dutch rock and roll band, a theater performance with my own songs and more. It feels like I just started, for me graduating is not an end but merely a way station.
