Simon de Jong

Past
Originally I wanted to be session bassist. At the Academy, I met cool guys like Jord Otto, Merlijn Poolman and Henri Kuipers with whom I was working on projects. Gradually my interest shifted to marketing and promotion. That’s what I focused on for the rest of my studies. The highlight was an internship at record label CNR / Roadrunner. I was involved in the marketing and promotion of folk repertoire at CNR and rock and metal releases at Roadrunner Records. My passion for the harder genre could flourish by working on releases by for example Alter Bridge, Slash and many others.

Present
My graduation project was also carried out at CNR / Roadrunner. My focus was on online marketing and promotion. I did research on increasing sales with the help of social media. Eventually the record company offered me a job and I work full time at CNR / Roadrunner now. My remit is to formulate and implement policies in the field of new media.

Future
I hope to be active in the music industry for a long time. Organizing cultural projects for children is a big wish of mine. By doing this I could combine my knowledge as a teacher (Teacher Training College Diploma) with the knowledge and skills I have gained from the Academy. So I want to make children enthusiastic about culture and especially music. I also want to record a new album with my band Soulburn and tour around the world. Because work is fun, but like a wize rocker once said: “I already sold my soul to Rock ‘n Roll”.
